Temilade Openiyi, the Grammy-winning Nigerian singer, popularly known as Tems has become a co-owner of Major League Soccer (MLS) club San Diego FC. She joined the ownership group through her company, The Leading Vibe, marking her as the first African woman to hold ownership stakes in an MLS club.
San Diego FC announced the news, expressing excitement about Tems’ addition. Club Chairman Mohamed Mansour described Tems as a globally significant artist whose influence will help expand the club’s reach. Tems herself shared her enthusiasm, saying, “I am thrilled to join San Diego FC’s ownership group and to be part of a club that celebrates creativity, culture, and the power of community.”
Tems’ involvement aligns with the club’s vision of uniting communities through football. The partnership aims to support the Right to Dream Academy, a youth development initiative, and promote football’s impact on and off the pitch.
