President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala on her reappointment as the Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO).
The announcement, made earlier last week, marks the continuation of Okonjo-Iweala’s historic tenure as the first African and first woman to lead the global trade body.

Dr. Okonjo-Iweala, who made history in 2021 as the first African and first woman to lead the 164-nation-member WTO, has been recognized for her exceptional leadership and strategic vision.
The reappointment process, initiated on October 8, 2024, saw no additional nominations by the November 8 deadline, making her the sole candidate.
