NELFUND Links Loan Portal to Schools for Easier Verification

The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has taken a significant step to simplify the student loan application process by linking its portal directly to school systems. This integration aims to streamline the verification of student information, making the process faster and more efficient.

During a sensitization program at the University of Ilorin, Mustapha Iyal, NELFUND’s Executive Director of Operations, announced the initiative. He explained that the organization is addressing verification challenges by collaborating with educational institutions. “We want to engage institutions directly by linking NELFUND activities to their portals” Iyal stated. This move allows students to select their preferred payment method; whether through NELFUND, cash, or other means, during their school registration process.

The new system eliminates the need for students to visit the NELFUND portal separately. Instead, students can complete their loan applications directly through their school’s portal, ensuring a smoother and more user-friendly experience. NELFUND has also committed to operating 24/7 to support students and resolve any issues promptly.

Umar Farouk, a representative of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), praised the initiative. He highlighted its potential to enhance access to higher education for students from low-income backgrounds. “This initiative ensures that children from disadvantaged families can pursue higher education without financial barriers,” Farouk remarked.

NELFUND’s integration with school portals marks a milestone in Nigeria’s education sector. By leveraging technology, the organization is making higher education more accessible and affordable for students across the country. This development aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to improving educational opportunities through innovative solutions.
